Brightness depends on the bulbs installed. This fixture accepts eight 60W candelabra-base bulbs (not included). With eight 60W incandescent bulbs, total output would be approximately 4800 lumens - enough to brightly illuminate a large foyer or stairwell. For a softer glow, use lower-wattage or dimmable LED bulbs.
