Brightness depends on the bulbs you choose. This fixture accepts two medium-base (E26) bulbs up to 60W each (or LED equivalent). Using two 60W incandescent bulbs produces about 1600 lumens total, suitable for task lighting over a vanity. For a softer glow, use lower-wattage or dimmable bulbs.
